Tools for capturing a screenshot

These are 2 awesome tools I find extremely useful. I use them all the time to capture a screenshot of anything on my screen like a picture or a portion of a website. They come in handy especially when creating “how-to” documents with step-by-step instructions. It allows me to capture and share what’s on my screen with great ease.

1. Windows Snipping Tool

  •  Snip a whole window, a rectangular section of the screen, or draw a freehand outline with your mouse or tablet pen (or your finger, if you’re using a PC with a touchscreen).
  • You can annotate, save, or e-mail the image using buttons right in the Snipping Tool window.
  • Available only in the Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions of Windows 7.

I can’t help but fall in love with this tool. It has a lot of useful features. My favorite is the highlighter. It allows me to highlight specific details on something I snipped.

2. Screen Grab Pro

  • A freeware from traction software.
  • Very easy to use. Not complicated at all
  • With the free version, you can grab the full screen or just a portion then save it as BMP, JPEG, ICO or PDF. The deluxe version (Free to try (30-day trial); $10.00 to buy) also supports TIFF and GIF.

This is another option if you can’t use the Windows Snipping Tool. The only disadvantage is its lack of advanced tools but you can always edit the captured pictures on “paint” or “photoshop”.
